The IRONMAN Foundation to provide an additional $80,000 in charitable giveback to the greater Madison region

TAMPA, Fla. (September 5, 2017) – The IRONMAN Foundation® will partner with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to provide $25,000 in critical life-saving equipment to the City of Verona and Oregon Police Departments. In addition, The IRONMAN Foundation will distribute an additional $80,000 in charitable giveback to non-profit initiatives and groups in the greater Madison region in conjunction with the 2017 IRONMAN® Wisconsin triathlon taking place on Sunday, September 10, bringing the total awarded to date to $1,047,000 to 192 local organizations.

Now in their fourth year of partnership, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and IRONMAN Foundation program has provided more than $334,000 in equipment to 26 first responder organizations in 12 IRONMAN race communities. The City of Verona Police Department will receive a street legal, environmentally friendly, MotoEV Electro Neighborhood Vehicle. The vehicle will allow supervisors to travel quickly and safely to inaccessible areas during special events for the safety of participants, visitors and citizens. The Oregon Police Department will receive seven new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to be used by first responders to revive cardiac arrest victims.

“First responders are much like IRONMAN athletes, proving anything is possible,” said Meghan Vargas, Senior Manager of Development for Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. “It’s a privilege to partner with the IRONMAN Foundation and give back to those who selflessly protect us and keep our communities safe every day.”

“We are truly honored to continue our partnership with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to support the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for their community each and every day,” said Sarah Hartmann, IRONMAN Foundation Community Relations Manager. “The IRONMAN Foundation is proud to support so many local community organizations and their incredible initiatives. Together we’re creating a lasting impact in our race community of Madison.”

The IRONMAN Foundation’s additional $80,000 in grant funding to local groups will include a $35,000 grant to the Madison Area Sports Commission to support the programming of Dane County youth organizations that connect children to sports activities.

The IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund provides community and volunteerism grant opportunities to non-profit organizations where IRONMAN events are held. In 2017, The IRONMAN Foundation will distribute more than $1.5 million in grant funding to support the needs of IRONMAN race communities across North America.
