SACRAMENTO, Calif./TAMPA, Fla. (October 18, 2021) – In conjunction with the IRONMAN® California triathlon, the IRONMAN Foundation® will continue its mission of creating tangible impact in IRONMAN race communities throughout Northern California next week, by distributing over $35,000 in grants to nonprofit initiatives within the region. In addition, the IRONMAN Foundation will host an IRONAID® Food Drive and book signing with The Voice of IRONMAN, Mike Reilly, in IRONMAN Village to further benefit the community.

“IRONMAN is about creating a sense of community,” said Audra Tassone-Indeck, Executive Director of the IRONMAN Foundation. “Through the support and generosity of our athletes and partners, we hope to be able to make a difference in Northern California’s continued recovery from the many wildfires that have impacted so many.”

The IRONMAN Foundation will host an IRONAID Food Drive in IRONMAN Village at Capitol Mall and 9th Street Thursday, October 21 through Saturday, October 23. Athletes and guests are asked to drop non-perishable food items.  All items collected will go to the Central Downtown Food Basket which feeds more than 1,500 food insecure households a month at mobile sites throughout Sacramento, California.

In addition, the IRONMAN Foundation will host two book signings with The Voice of IRONMAN, IRONMAN Foundation Team Captain, and author, Mike Reilly in IRONMAN Village on Friday, October 22 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM and Saturday, October 23 from 12 PM to 1 PM. Donations to the IRONMAN Foundation’s Humanitarian Relief Fund will be accepted to assist with Northern California Wildfire rebuilding efforts.  Attendees may purchase a book on-site or bring their own for Reilly to sign.

“I have been involved with the IRONMAN Foundation for many years and I am so proud of the support the organization continues to provide to our IRONMAN race communities,” shared Mike Reilly, Voice of IRONMAN. “I’m especially proud of the organization’s Humanitarian Relief efforts here in my home state of California. I am very excited to meet our athletes and supporters at the IRONMAN Foundation booth in IRONMAN Village and do my part to help raise funds to help Northern California rebuild.”

One Humanitarian Relief Grant recipient is the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County’s Fire Response Fund which will receive $10,000 to further its wildfire rebuilding and recovery efforts in the Santa Cruz Mountains and North Coast.

The IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund provides community and volunteerism grant opportunities to non-profit organizations where IRONMAN and IRONMAN® 70.3® events are held. In 2021 the IRONMAN Foundation will distribute more than $2 million in grant funding to support the needs of IRONMAN race communities. This year’s grant funding brings the total giveback to $450,000 throughout Northern California IRONMAN, IRONMAN 70.3, and Rock ‘n’ Roll® Running Series events.
